ACT 20 Bio

Growing up in a household that primarily listened to country music, ACT 20 lead singer Jordan Miller found at a young age that he gravitated toward music with an emotional meaning. That took on a whole new form when Breaking Benjamin released their breakthrough hit “So Cold” during his impressionable preteen years. With the realization that passion and emotion in music can take many forms, he dove headfirst into the rabbit-hole of the early 2000’s rock scene and never looked back.

Fascinated by the concept of how songs are constructed, he learned drums, guitar and bass at a young age while also briefly taking lessons in piano and violin. With the distortion-fueled sounds of Rise Against, Three Days Grace, Disturbed and  Papa Roach ever present and the pop-punk powerhouses of Blink 182, Sum 41, Green Day and Fall Out Boy going strong, it was a wonderful time to be interested in rock music.

As the heyday of rock started to ebb and hip-hop became the new sound, it became harder to find music that he connected with. Diving deeper into the fading rock world, he found bands like Neck Deep, State Champs, and a band that would change his life forever, AS IT IS. With a powerful, emotional message about shunning outdated social norms and being open and honest with yourself about your weaknesses, Jordan resumed writing his own music with a fresh, honest approach. He decided to revive his high-school solo project, ACT 20.

Over time, he crafted a unique sound of melodic alternative with a focus on real-life emotions. “If music doesn’t make you feel something, what’s the point?” has long been Jordan’s mantra when it comes to music. “I don’t care if it makes you sad, angry, depressed, happy. If it doesn’t evoke an emotional response, it’s just noise. And I’m not here to make noise.”

Debut single “Fair-weather Friends” is a perfect microcosm of the ACT 20 sound. Pop-rock songs aren’t usually about a man losing his best friend, but that’s the point. The open and honest views of depression and pain are sure to be misunderstood by some, but will surely touch the hearts of the lonely and afraid. With a polished sound that’s orchestrated to tug at the feelings of those who need it, ACT 20’s goal is always to help those who need it to feel less alone.
